Ashadha Gupt Navratri: 'The Secret of Nine Nights'
Ashadha Gupt Navratri is a significant festival in Hinduism, observed in the month of Ashadha. It is also known as Gayatri Navratri. During these nine sacred nights, devotees worship the nine forms of Goddess Durga in a secretive and deeply spiritual manner. Tantra Vidya holds special importance during this period, and spiritual practices performed are believed to remove defects in the horoscope and bring divine blessings.
Ashadha Gupt Navratri Puja Vidhi
Worship during Ashadha Gupt Navratri is performed with devotion and adherence to rituals:
- Kalash Sthapana: Place the idol of Goddess Durga on a platform draped with red or yellow cloth. Position the Kalash at an auspicious spot, fill it with Ganga water, Batasha, Durva, and whole turmeric. Decorate it with mango or Ashoka leaves.
- Puja and Mantra Chanting: Perform Aarti and worship Goddess Durga for nine days. Recite Durga Saptashati and Devi Bhagavat daily, and chant the mantra ‘Om Dum Durgaye Namah’.
- Position and Direction: Sit on a Kusha or woolen seat facing east or north during worship.
- Avoid Tamasic Food: Refrain from consuming heavy, hard-to-digest food during the fast.
Benefits of Fasting and Abstinence
According to Ayurveda, fasting (Langhan) offers multiple health benefits. It gives rest to the digestive system, boosts immunity, and helps prevent illness. Abstinence during Navratri keeps the mind focused on prayer, reduces laziness, and enhances spiritual concentration. Thus, fasting during Gupt Navratri provides both religious merit and physical well-being.
