Today's Karan: An Important Part of the Panchang
Do you know what Today's Karan is? In Vedic Astrology, the Panchang is made up of five key elements: Tithi, Vaar, Nakshatra, Yoga, and Karan. Among these, Karan holds special importance as it helps determine the auspicious and inauspicious timings of the day.
Simply put, half of a Tithi is called a Karan. Each Tithi consists of two Karanas. One Karana is completed when the Moon moves 6 degrees ahead of the Sun. According to astrological calculations, there are 11 Karanas in total, divided into two main categories:

Significance of Karana
Karana is not just a part of the almanac; it has a profound influence on daily life. Each Karana carries its own nature, which impacts the activities performed during that time.
- Determining Auspicious and Inauspicious Works: Certain Karanas are highly auspicious, while others are considered inauspicious. For instance, Vishti Karana (also known as Bhadra) is regarded as inauspicious, and during this period, important rituals like marriage, housewarming, or travel are avoided.
- Daily Life Applications: Karanas are taken into account when selecting a Shubh Muhurat. Beginning new tasks during an auspicious Karana increases the likelihood of success.
- Impact on Birth Time: The Karana present at the time of birth is believed to influence a personâs nature and destiny.
